A language skill has been traditionally considered as the ability to speak, listen, read and write in any given language. It has also come to include a fifth skill, culture.[1]

Listening and reading are considered to be receptive skills while speaking and writing are considered to be productive skills.

Many teachers, and particularly, coursebooks, try to include a mixture of these skills in every class.
