Pre-teaching

Pre-teaching is preparing students for a challenging piece of authentic listening or reading by going over potentially difficult vocabulary.
It can be done by the teacher, or by the students themselves either for homework or as a classroom exercise. One advantage of getting students to look up words in dictionaries is that it encourages self-study and allows them to be more active in their own learning process.
