Self study
From Teflpedia
Self study, also known as self instruction, normally refers to learning situations in which the student is responsible for his or her own rate of learning, albeit quite possibly using material provided by a teacher or language school.
Traditionally self-study materials have been aimed at students who don't have time to attend a regular class and/or prefer to set their own pace. Such material is often academic and/or science-oriented and based on writing and reading skills, with possible audiovisual input included as an aside.
Market research carried out by the BBC showed that over 50% per cent of foreign language students study by themselves at home.
